It has been brought to my attention that during the merger between UWEAR and PALEDEMIN that neither company has been working with a code of conduct. As we all know the Code of Conduct reflects upon the ethical culture of an organization, which is taken from the company mission statement. This meeting is in part to address this concern and to deliver the importance of having a Code of Conduct in place, which will be beneficial for both UWEAR and PALEDEMIN. This is not to imply that unethical conduct has been taking place in either company, by having code of conduct in place will help to ensure professional behavior will take place at all time during and throughout this transition phase. This meeting is to help facilitate both UWEAR and PALEDEMIN in crafting, publishing and executing a code of conduct based upon the cultural ethic of both company combined. The purpose for a code of conduct is to help the organization to establish the assurance within a company, it will also touch u pon the cultural ethics of the company while maintaining the legal and ethical policies and system for the decision making process. Not to exclude the core values and principle of the company, this will be established by a committee, here they will analysis the codes of conduct and bring them back yearly. When we got into the train station we saw that we had ten minutes to get home so we ran to my friends house which was right near the station and all caled our parents and made some excuse for why we didn’t check in for that day and we made it out alive. We all let out a big sigh of relief and spent th e rest of the day talking about our journey.

Excessive Job demands and continuous hassles may result in a chronic state of physical and emotional depletion or the experience of emotional exhaustion. Emotional exhaustion is the core component of burnout and it has significant implications with the quality of ones work life and to the optimal functioning of an organization (Sahara, 1997; Shirrs, as cited in Byrne, Cropland, and Molder, n. D. ). The nature of call center Jobs which involves spending all day on the phone, dealing with people one after another is the primary source of stress to the employees because the nature of the Job is difficult (Iraqi Sure, 2008). Aside from the emotional exhaustion experienced by employees, this study also covers three possible factors, which might predict Job performance: emotional intelligence, civil status and Job ratification. Salvoes and Mayer (1990) provided definitions of emotional intelligence (E) : as the ability to perceive accurately, appraise, and express emotion; the ability to access and/or generate feelings when hey facilitate thought; the ability to understand emotion and emotional knowledge; and the ability to regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth. E able to manage their emotions so that they can be able to display the emotions desired by the organization (Hurt Moon, 2011). The variable civil status in this study refers specifically on the marital aspect of the individual; married or single. The last possible predictor of Job performance is ratification. Ratification refers to the repetition of the tasks performed in the Job which will be represented by customer purp ort representatives and technical support representatives. Call center agents within Metro Manila are asked to take part in the study. The participants are divided with equal representation for civil status and ratification of their Job. There are a total of 320 participants. Non-discriminative snowball sampling is used in selecting the participants. Three scales are utilized, each scale measures one construct, the variables measured are: emotional intelligence, emotional exhaustion, and Job performance. Statement of the Problem This proposed study determines the possible predictors of Job performance and the editing role of emotional exhaustion. Specifically, the study intends to answer the following questions: 1. Do the following significantly predict Job performance? Emotional intelligence b. Civil status c. ratification 2. Does emotional exhaustion mediate the relationship between Job performance and the following: a. Emotional intelligence Review of Related Literature The review of related literature focuses on studies which discuss the relationship of each predictor variables to Job performance. Each variable is defined and this section also includes results and discussions from previous studies that are erectly and/or closely related to the study. However, there is limited literature available on the relationship between the variable ratification and Job performance. Also, studies on the relationship of emotional intelligence to Job performance show inconsistent results. Job Performance Knavery (as cited in Mishear Anaphora, 2010) conceptualized Job performance as the level in which an individual performs ones role in consideration of certain standards set by the organization. It is the combined value of the discrete behavioral episodes that is performed by the individual for the organization over a standard interval of time (Motility, Barman, Schmitt, as cited in Sahara Regenerated, 2011) and is divided into two dimensions. The first dimension, task performance, refers to behaviors that are directly linked with Job completion and it consists of carrying out technical processes and maintenance and servicing of technical requirements. The second dimension is contextual performance; this dimension pertains to an individuals interpersonal behaviors or actions that benefit the organization. This dimension comprises different activities like helping and volunteering to carry out tasks (Motility et al. As cited in Sahara Regenerated, 2011). These dimensions lead to raising awareness about what contributes to an individuals overall performance in the workplace. Emotional Exhaustion Emotional exhaustion is a chronic state of physical and emotional depletion which results from excessive Job demands and continuous hassles (Shirrs, as cited in Byrne, Cropland, and Molder, n. ; Sahara; as cited in Wright and Cropland, 1998). It is a significant topic of interest for organizational researchers because it has important implications for the quality of work life and for optimal organizational injunction. Emotional exhaustion is one of the three components of burnout, a psychological response to work-related stress. The two other components are diversification and reduced personal accomplishment (Mascara, Schaeffer, Letter, as cited in Deere, Iverson, Walsh, 2002). Focusing on emotional exhaustion, even if it is Just one part of the three-component conceptualization of burnout, can be Justified by two issues. First issue is that, although past research about burnout was dominated by the three-component conceptualization as it elates to measurement of burnout, other researchers have questioned Machs three component conceptualization and other conceptualizations were proposed for the processes underlying burnout (Demerit, Beaker, Machinery, Schaeffer; Pines, Aarons, Carry; Shirrs, as cited in Byrne, Cropland Molder, n. D. Hellbender; as cited in Demerit Moister, 2010) and the second issue is that, even though the alternative conceptualizations vary in different ways, all of them included emotional exhaustion as a primary component of burnout (Hellbender, 2007). This suggests that emotional exhaustion is indeed central to the experience of burnout because it is the most consistent with its relationships with outside variables such as commitmen t and Job satisfaction (Corded Doughtier; Demerit; Green, Walked, Taylor; Lee Seaports; Hellbender; as cited in Wright Cropland, 1998). Although the three components are important, a growing number consensus based on previous research has concluded that emotional exhaustion is the key dimension of burnout (Corded Doughtier, as cited in Wright Cropland, 1998). According to Shirrs (as cited in Byrne, Cropland, Molder, n. D. ), the core meaning of burnout can be best found in the physical and psychological depletion that characterizes emotional exhaustion. He further noted that defining burnout as emotional exhaustion will help distinguish it from other social science concepts. Wright and Cropland (1998) focused on emotional exhaustion derived from the Conservation of Resources (CORE) theory that provided particular valuable insights on prolonged emotional exhaustion. The framework stated that emotional exhaustion is most likely to manifest if an individual experienced an actual resource loss, or a perceived threat of resource loss or if the individual had been in a situation where ones resources were inadequate to meet work demands, or when in a situation in which the return of an investment of resources were not obtained (Hobble, 1988 as cited in Wright Cropland, 1998). In a one-year longitudinal study conducted by Wright and Cropland (1998), and Job performance to emotional exhaustion. Wright asked social welfare workers employed by a large city on the West Coast of the United States (N = 64) to participate n the study by meaner of a direct contact procedure. The actual sample included 52 employees, representing a response rate of 81%. The mean age for this mostly male (69%) sample was 42 years; the mean tenure was 13 years. Emotional exhaustion was measured with Mascara and Jacksons (1986) nine-item emotional exhaustion scale (Mascara Burnout Inventory). This nine-item scale measured how often one feels emotionally overextended and exhausted by ones work. Results showed that emotional exhaustion was unrelated to Job satisfaction, it was associated with both performance and subsequent turnover. Multiple regression analysis further demonstrated that emotional exhaustion predicted both turnover and Job performance, even after negative affectively and positive affectively were controlled. Call center employees experienced high levels of emotional pressure and work- related strain, which caused poor performance as well as high turnover (Highs; Vary; Rose Wright; as cited in Hang, 2010). Emotional Intelligence The concept of emotional intelligence originated from Thorniness (1920) concept of social intelligence. Salvoes and Mayer (1990) provided definitions of emotional intelligence: as ones capability to clearly convey emotions, the ability to make sense of what one feels when processing a thought, the ability to comprehend and interpret emotion and emotional knowledge, and lastly, the ability to manage emotions in a way that enhances ones emotional and intellectual growth. There are two constructs of emotional intelligence (E): trait emotional intelligence and ability emotional intelligence (Peptides, Burnham Manville, 2007). Trait emotional intelligence which can also be called trait emotional self-efficacy focused on the motion -related dispositions and self-perceptions which are measured using self- report while the second construct, that is ability emotional intelligence or the cognitive-emotional ability focused on the emotion-related cognitive abilities which can be measured through maximum-performance tests. Trait El and ability El are different in terms of measurement and conceptualization because Trait El is measured using self-reports while ability El is performance-based and for their differences in conceptualization, Trait El is based on personality trait while ability El is based on the cognitive ability (Peptides et al, 2007). Emotional Intelligence on Job Performance According to Munchkins (as cited in Barbet, Barterer, See, 2004), there is a lack of literature on organizational behavior that focuses on the emotional aspect because people often see emotion as the complete opposite of logic. In line with this rising interest in emotions, studies have been conducted in which the role of emotional intelligence in individuals and organizational performance has been demonstrated (Bar-on; Coleman; as cited in Moon Hurt, 2011). Coleman (as cited in Moon Hurt, 2011) defined emotional intelligence as a competency of managing oneself and ones relationships with others, making effective teamwork, leading others, and forecasting the future, all of which had positive effects in terms of efficacy and Job performance. Emotional intelligence is important for employees because it is essential for them to be able to manage their emotions so they may be Individuals who are emotionally intelligent cope better with lifes challenges and job stresses, and therefore are psychologically and physically healthy. It was also suggested that emotional intelligence aids individuals in managing Job stress and remotes adaptability to challenging environments so that distress or burnout are avoided (Bar-on, as cited in Moon Hurt, 2011). Contrary to the previous studies mentioned, a study conducted by Gray (2010) showed that there was no statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and Job performance. The sample consisted of 268 call center (45 leaders and 223 raters) across different age and race groups. All of the participants completed the 3600 Emotional Competency Profiler (ESP.) in order to measure emotional intelligence whereas the Job performance data were obtained from the management team and an average score of their performance over a one-year period was examined. Civil Status on Job Performance The role of civil status on Job performance is still in need of more studies that will focus entirely on the relationship of the two. However, there are studies that are related to civil status and Job performance that offers different perspectives on how job performance varies depending on civil status. Johnston and Keeled (as cited in Russell Rush) 1987 said that married individuals may be perceived more favorably than singles because marriage is received with high value, a desired characteristic and as an important state for the development of an individual. Russell and Rush (1987) asked 160 male and female undergraduates to provide performance evaluations and attributions for a poor- performing stimulus employee depicted as male or female, either single or married. Results showed no significant difference between the evaluation of the males and females. However, when it comes to civil status, it shows that married mothers were evaluated most favorably while single females were least favorably evaluated. Their endings were interpreted through the societal values individuals have regarding employment and civil status. Being employed is positively evaluated because individuals perceive it as a factor that contributes to an individuals sense of life satisfaction and positive mental health. Ratification The forms of service that call center employees provide may vary from providing inbound or outbound services and the management practices of the call center companies (Bait; Wood, Holman Stride; as cited in Hang et al. 2010). Majority of the work they provide is characterized by high degrees of ratification and employee control (Knights McCabe; Taylor Pain; Franken, Corrosions, Shire Tam; Holman Fernier; Taylor, Baldly, Pain Ellis; as cited in Hang et al. , 2010). The repetitive nature of the tasks performed in call centers is a distinctive feature of the Job (Jennie, Hutchison, Purcell; Taylor Pain; as cited in Deere et al. 2002) which led to the expectation that employees in cal l centers will have higher level of emotional exhaustion due to its lacking of task variety and routinely nature (Wharton, as cited in Deere et al. , 2002). Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Exhaustion and Job Performance particularly relevant to work behavior in call centers, because abilities to manage relationships and to show empathy and social sensibility when needed are the prerequisites for good performance in the call center workplace. Employees who are high in Emotional Intelligence (E) have lower risk of experiencing emotional exhaustion and burnout. The reason behind this is that, employees high in El have better interpersonal skills and are more able to tolerate emotional pressure which implies that employees high in El will probably exhibit higher performance at work. Based on a study conducted by Highs (2004), El was positively related to individual performance. The data were collected from 289 call center employees in the I-J. In addition, Van Roy and Visceral (2004, as cited in Hang et al. , 2010) proposed that emotional intelligence should be a predictor of burnout (p. 87) which in turn may influence the work performance of employees. Hang et al. (2010) hypothesized that in call centers, burnout may be an intermediate variable that mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence and work performance. They examined the Joint effect of leader-member exchange ELM) and emotional intelligence (E) on burnout and work performance. Results based on data collected from 493 leader-member dyads in the call center of a large Chinese telecommunication company indicated that ELM was negatively related to burnout, in which the variable emotional exhaustion is a component, and was not significantly related to objective work performance. Furthermore, the effects of the four dimensions of El (self emotion appraisal, other-emotion appraisal, use of emotion, and regulation of emotion) on burnout and performance was examined and found that burnout mediated the link between use of emotion and work reference. (Hang, et. Al , 2010) A study conducted by Moon and Hurt (2011) examined how emotional intelligence (E) affects emotional exhaustion (burnout) resulting from emotional labor, and how emotional exhaustion influences an individuals Job performance in terms of organizational commitment and Job satisfaction. The participants include retail sales employees who had worked at major department stores (Lotto, Shingle, and Kayaking) in South Korea for at least one year. They were asked to complete a self-administered survey. Results showed that the three factors of emotional intelligence appraisal of motions, optimism, and social skills were negatively associated with emotional exhaustion, which was also negatively related to Job performance. In addition, the mediating effect of emotional exhaustion was confirmed in the relationship between job performance and appraisals of emotions, optimism, and social skills as factors in emotional intelligence. The literature discussed in this chapter presents observed relationships between the variables and Job performance, and the mediating role of emotional exhaustion. Researches stated that emotional exhaustion being the core component of burnout an lead to deterioration of ones Job performance. In previous studies, researchers also pointed out that emotional intelligence has an existing role on a persons individual and organizational performance. Likewise, civil status affects Job performance of individuals. In this study, civil status pertains to individuals who are married or single by law. Ratification encompasses how patterned and monotonous the nature of an employees work is. It pertains to the nature of work that the individual is engaged in, which may vary depending on whether the call center agent is a customer support representative or technical support representative. The criterion variable is Job performance, which is the level wherein an individual does ones role with consideration to the organizations standards (Knavery, as cited in Mishear and Anaphora, 2010). What Does Null Mean in C, C and C# In computer programming, null is both a value and a pointer. Null is a built-in constant that has a value of zero. Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and its film version My fair lady Essay Example for Free

Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and its film version My fair lady Essay Pygmalion written by Bernard Shaw, was first performed on stage with Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins. The reception of the audience during the play was of utmost disappointment due to the non romantic ending of the play, even though that was Shaws initial intentions. My fair Lady on the other hand is a musical based on Pygmalion, and the movie was shot in 1964 by director George Cukor. Although there are numerous similarities between musical and play such as the character interactions or how both of them portray social status, especially in the conclusion, the musical displays several contradictions in comparison to the movie. Bernard Shaw wrote the play during an important moment in history, which was when women were starting to gain independence in the beginning of the 20th century. It is produced in 1914 which is when WW1 broke out and war time made it easier for women to find work, and soon after women got their independent vote in 1920. Thus Pygmalion has a strong sense of feminism and independence as one of the leading themes to guide the characters on, especially Eliza. Eliza throughout the play is striving to prove how women should be independent and not rely on men in order to lead a life. Both movie and play shows us that when Higgins turns Eliza into a duchess, he didnt give her just class and status but he took her independence away because she is not fit to sell anything else. What happens now is that if Eliza doesnt marry she has no one to provide for her and Freddy is useless because he has no talent for making money. Thus Higgins indirectly limited Elizas opportunities making her dependent on men. And during the movie when she goes back to Higgins she loses power in her character. Even though it was of her own free will and not on necessity, she still loses the power she had before. Pygmalion comes from a Greek Myth, Ovids narrative where a man called Pygmalion makes a sculpture of a woman called Galatea. Ovids original idea is that Galatea would be a worshipping monument to Pygmalion with a woman who refuses to be bound to a man who says that he has created her. Shaw in a way is flouting with Ovids original purpose due to all the inferences even  in Pygmalion that Higgins maybe has feelings for Eliza, supporting Shaws proposal of a woman within a low rank to dominate and gain the love of a middle class man. However, whether Eliza loves him or not is a different matter. On the other hand, Shaw has an ironic ending of Eliza marrying Freddy. So her independence goes straight into the gutter when she goes from being the subject of one man to another, because that is the only thing an upper class woman is supposed to do in her life, just like when Mr. Doolittle said I was free. He wants to return to the undeserving poverty instead of living as a rich man where everyone wants something from him, including his wife now wants to marry him. What happens is that as a working class woman, Eliza had her own independence and was used to assert her own rights I wont stay here if I dont like and I wont let nobody wallop me!. Now, women in her position cannot sell flowers and she must sell [her]self into marriage, giving up her rights and being dominate by men. As a second theme, Higgins is shown as a dangerous teacher to Eliza due to his mind broadening influence. Similar to the movie Dead poets Society, just like the teacher Mr. Keating, Higgins exerts a subversive influence on Eliza, with an encouragement to such an extent that he fills her heads with dreams that life cant give. His destructive influence although with best intentions at heart, if Higgins had done nothing, Eliza would not have moved classes. But now that he has given her attributes changing her social class, he creates expectations, illusions and taste to a dream which she cannot fulfill. The consequence is that his actions creates these ripples which can disrupt society, because he is going against societys flow, just like Socrates, who was popular among young men, he gave ideas going against cities principles. For any person, not just a fictional character within a play, when someone doesnt have what they want, this creates frustration because there is no structure to support their dreams, and Higgins just like Mr Keating doesnt realize the consequence of his actions. So now Higgins created a situation where Eliza cant do anything else and is now only fit to  sell myself. This theme is also connected to another theme in the play such as social class and language, because Higgins gives Eliza her language, but as shown in the first meeting that Eliza has with Mrs. Higgins, she has a flawless English however lacks a decent background, manners and taste. Thus social class is a combination of all of these and Pickering is the one who gives her the rest of her social class in addition to the language given by Higgins. So language also has an important role as shown in Higgins song why cant the English? where he says that Eliza is condemned by every syllable that she utters. In the year 300 b.c. Aristotle made it clear that a tragedy usually ends in death and a comedy ends in marriage. Throughout the play, Bernard Shaw leads the characters in believing that Eliza will end up marrying Higgins or someone with very great richness, when in fact, Shaw does not follow Aristotles rule and he breaks the whole build up of expectations that the audience had while watching the play. In contrast the film ends with Eliza entering Higgins room and his ending line is where the hell are my slippers so the film allows us to believe they dont get married, it only hints it, and that if they do, he will be a dominant person in their relationship. However when Shaw wrote the play, and the movie changes his initial reasons of writing the ending the way he did, Shaw wanted to show that people who dont marry, such as Higgins, arent disintegrated from their parents because they put their parents in high pedestals, which is also known as Oedipus tragedy. Both endings in Pygmalion and My Fair Lady, seem to have an ending which is adapted to the main theme of the story, i.e. the film director and Shaw wanted to make different statements in their work. This leads to the assumption that the ending from Pygmalion is an ending that makes sense when seen that Shaws initial intention of having a play about feminism and independence, and at the same time the ending of My Fair Lady also makes sense because it is a Hollywood movie, like a Cinderella story with a romantic twist, shot in order to attract an audience. Thus although the  movie and play are the same story the focus placed on each one is on different themes which is what causes the alteration of the ending. This means that if My Fair Lady had a different ending, the addition of the songs such as rain in Spain and grown accustomed in the movie, which add a sense of romance, would be completely destroyed if both lovers werent able to conquer all of the issues between both of them. In addition, the film director also placed an emphasis on different characters and evens than Shaw. Whilst Shaws play is on social concern, criticizing the way social classes judge others based on their accent, the films message is of an individuals life that if one tries hard enough a development may be achieved. Or during the film when they say that she needs the services of a dentist so that she can get used to live and speak like a lady, meaning that all that the film was concerned about was Elizas development and her climbing of steps on the social ladder. Not to mention that for the movies ending, an idealized Eliza is portrayed in order to appeal to the public: with a noble posture when dealing under pressure. Whilst in comparison to the play she does not show her sincere feelings as Shaw first wrote it. However, even though when Eliza leaves Higgins in Pygmalions ending, although it follows through with the feminist theme, it is completely understandable why the audience for this play end the play with a feeling of dissatisfaction because after reading a whole play with a character such as Higgins who is hilarious at every speech, and at some point in the play makes you feel compassion for him, it is extremely infuriating when the main character goes off without him after a man who is in the play mainly for tempting Eliza and has no other part in play. All Freddie feels for Eliza is a platonic love and he writes her three pages every day, when Higgins actually shows true feelings for Eliza in his own disguised way. In My fair Lady, when Eliza returns from the ball, she is crying and really afraid of what might happen to her in the future where am I to go, what am I to do which Higgins without any kind of respect throws her options like working in a florists shop or marrying someone. However none of these  options satisfy Eliza. Then on the next day, it seems like it dawns on Higgins because he says where will you go, in Heaven`s name?, giving a sense that he realized that he would miss Eliza as shown in the song grown accustomed. Even though she says quite firmly she would teach phonetics, it is obvious for the audience that teaching phonetics is not what she really wanted. So what the movie shows more clearly is that Eliza does indeed have options and that Higgins is afraid he will be without her. So what makes the ending of this movie such an attraction to the audience is that Eliza comes back to Higgins as a choice of her own and not as a need. Which is in fact exactly what Higgins likes: a person who makes their decisions based on rational thinking and not on weakness. In conclusion the film has added and taken away certain characteristics of the play, but this does not mean that one is better than the other, it only means that the author and the director had different propositions in mind as to what they wanted to show their audience. One could say that the main obvious difference between the play and the movie are the songs. The songs entertain the public and thus they are more appealed because it follows a movies characteristics of those days, in addition it emphasizes Shaws initial ideas of what the characters felt leading to the main themes of the play. For example when Eliza is in the market and she wished for comfort, warmth and chocolate. However the disadvantage is that the main theme of the play which is a criticism to high classes is lost, thus songs lose the main themes and makes the story appear more Hollywood like instead of being based on a book. Changes in For Whom The Bell Tolls The novel For Whom The Bell Tolls was primarily about Hemingway's changes through wartime. Hemingway reveals these ideas about war through the narrator's thoughts and through the interaction between the major characters. Hemingway shows that war brings about a personal change, that reveals much about man's individuality and that time is limited. Hemingway reveals much about the individuality of men and the singularity of the code through the relationship of Robert Jordan and Maria. When Jordan is dying at the end of the novel he says to Maria "Thou wilt go now, rabbit. But I go for thee. As long as there is one of us there is both of us. Do you understand?"(p460) We begin to understand how we as people are never truly alone but instead are always surrounded by the memories and thoughts of those we love. When two people truly fall in love they become as one. Where one goes, both go. Robert finally says to her " The me in thee. Now you go for us both. Truly. We both go in thee now. This I have promised thee. Stand up. Thou art me now. Thou art all there will be of me. Stand up." (Pg.462) By saying this Jordan reveals how man is never an individual but instead is made up of all the influences, experiences, and memories that we have shared with others. Furthermore this change came upon Jordan as a consequence of joining the war. Before the war had started he had no idea what it meant to be an individual, or to truly fall in love. Jordan says to Maria "I have never loved someone as thee. Before our cause I never new what it was like to truly live. Or to love, as I do thee" (P160). This shows how being in the war allowed him to understand what it really meant to be... ...sp; Furthermore it is the war that has caused this change in Robert Jordan. Near the end of the novel Jordan states that "The war has taught me one thing. That time is what is important. More so than I thought before. If I die it will be OK, because I have lived the life I wanted in these last three days" (P434). Jordan has come to realize that time is a very limited thing, and that opportunities only come once. To waste them is foolish, you must take what you can, when you can, because of the very fact that time is limited. There is only a finite amount of time to do the things we want, and when Jordan comes to this realization he has already done what he wanted to do. The essence of war is what taught him this. The fact that one minute "Your friend is beside you, the next he is laying on the forest floor. Begging for you to kill him."(P 207). Dark Knight Literary Analysis

There is no doubt in my mind my argument will be convincing in this case. When one searches for the definition of herd' In the dictionary, one finds definitions of the term such as: â€Å"a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. † , â€Å"the principal male character in a story, play, film, etc. â€Å", and â€Å"a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal†.If you are familiar with Batman, you would already be nodding your head in approval of my premise, but as a sign of respect to Christopher Nylon's trilogy and for points In the AP English Language class this essay will be more horrors In Its analysis. It will be deeper, In a literary way. You haven't read everything. Not everything, not yet. The story of a hero must be one of rebirth and the overcoming of obstacles. All the major pop-culture heroes we know and love have been through it. Neo was awoken from his matrix-induced slumber to face the real world.He had to embrace the fact he was the One, and that he had the power to free mankind from the machines. Tactics Finch fought racism while fighting for his client in the times of blatant discrimination In Batman's case. His whole life was filled with tragic obstacles. HIS arenas were murdered when he was barely a child in front of him, which left him without any technical family to nurture him. But in light of his father's words after he witnessed great fear in a well: â€Å"Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up. â€Å", he did, in fact, pick himself up.Bruce Wayne was convinced Gotcha was full of corruption, crime and evil, but that the problem had a solution. The well Bruce fell In as a child worked perfectly as a metaphor for the trilogy throughout. In that well he faced what would first become his biggest fear, to then become his symbol and tool to becoming powerful. In his quest for b ecoming a new version of himself that could effectively fight crime he met Era's AY Ghoul, who taught him the ways of physical combat and most importantly how to strike fear in the mind of his enemies by first embracing his own darkness and fear.As a result the symbol of the bat becomes a prominent motif or identity In the story. We can see It in his nightmares, his cave and, of course, his suit. Later In the series we witness another rebirth of the main character. This time it's less Bruce Wayne who is being reborn, and more Batman. After taking the blame for Harvey Dent's wrongdoings, the injured and exhausted Batman disappears from Gotcha. And so does Bruce Wayne from his company and from the eye of the media. Once the new, unstoppable Bane becomes terrorizing Gotcha Batman tries once more to restore the order in his city but falls.Bane beats him half to death and leaves him In his former prison to rot and watch Gotcha burn afraid of losing Gotcha. In this situation he has to fin d strength in himself in order to live, escape the depths of the prison and ultimately save his city from Bane's nuclear bomb. In his escape, a clear reference to the well of his childhood is made. A well that signifies both the embrace of one's fears and rebirth. During his ascension to freedom Bruce recollects the words formerly mentioned by his dead father. Mentors are crucial in a heroic Journey. They shape the character of the hero and teach him the ways of heroism.They usually deliver words of wisdom that can be become anyone's motto. Among them we can find Tumbledown, You'd, Magic and Hammiest. Bruce Wane's Journey is positively endowed with mentors. The most obvious option would be his father, commonly any boys role model. His life was short, and his company to Bruce even more, but his presence endured the test of time. His strong words clearly rang in his son's mind for the rest of his life. Thomas Wayne was a rich man, who loved his family. He was a philanthropist who beli eved in peace. His last words to Bruce were â€Å"Bruce, don't be afraid. â€Å", and in retrospect these are words he strongly lived by.Another mentor of Wayne is Henry Ducal, Era's AY Ghoul. It was this man who drove Bruce to becoming Batman, he challenged him to embrace his fears. Ducal trained him to become the machine of crime-fighting he later becomes when he faces the Joker. Ducat's presence in the story is brief, but without him Bruce Wayne wouldn't have found Batman in himself. Bruce Wayne encounters this darkness and embraces it, but he struggles to find his balance. This brings up the final, and most important mentor in his life, Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred job is to butler for Bruce, but he represents much more than any of that.Alfred was there for Bruce after his parents were murdered and took care of him. Alfred provides wisdom to Bruce when he needs it, he is a fountain of life lessons because of his travels and age. Alfred holds the memories of what the Wayne family was before Brace's parents died. He speaks in the way Brace's father did to him as a child, reminding him of what his father taught him to stand up for. When Batman is pushed up against the ropes when trying to figure out what the Joker wants, Alfred helps out with a memorable quote. â€Å"Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money.They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men Just want to watch the world burn. â€Å", with these words, Wayne gains insight on who he is facing. After this, he understands The Joker Just wants to bend Batman's rules. Finally, the most notorious asset of a hero is his sacrifice for others. This can be presented as material or emotional. Heroic sacrifices are classical. Like Gangland the Grey first death as he fights the fierce Balboa to let the rest of the Fellowship flee or when the T-800 had himself lowered into the pit of molten metal to save humanity from fut ure terminators in the end of Terminator.

Gawain's Journey essays In the days of King Arthur, religion was one of the most important aspects of life. Literature from this period reflects that strong faith and reliance that people had in God. People looked to God for answers, protection, and comfort. To these people, God worked in mysterious ways, so it was not hard for someone to turn away from God. Faith test were given to knights and people of the liking to see if they truly were devoted to God. Such a test is given to Sir Gawain in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Gawain is a good, faithful knight who is sent on a journey in the name of God. Gawains faith in God changes from setting to setting, as new challenges are placed before Gawain. God is first mentioned in line 370 when the King gives Gawain Gods blessing, and asking that he be strong in spirit and stout in sinew. Gawain is given a mission to seek out the Green Knight, which he accepts. But I am bound to bear the blow and must be gone tomorrow to seek the gallant in green, as God sees fi t to guide me..This sets the tone for this strong faith in the beginning of the story. Gawain believes that he can do anything with the assistance of God. Prior to his departure, all the people said, By Christ, it is evil that yon lord should be lost, who lives so nobly. This hints even more that God will be set to protect Gawain while he is in danger, providing him with comfort and safety. Gawain knew that God was his ultimate protector, and went on his journey. Now the gallant Sir Gawain in Gods name goes...No traveler to talk to on the track but God.. The noble knight travels until Christmas Eve, when he prays to Mary for a place for shelter and prayer. I do not completely agree with the argument that low cost leadership cannot be practiced in todays fast-paced marketplace. It is still possible in today’s world to be cost efficient and some companies are live examples in front of us. For example, Wal-Mart has successfully refined its supply chain which is adding values in the lowest cost possible in a consistent manner, hence driving the completion away. Another example is that of Mc Donalds who has been able to keep the prices of its products low through hiring cheap inexperienced labor and making it efficient. Ikea is sourcing its raw materials from other countries at lower costs, hence gaining a competitive advantage and Southwest airlines remained competitive for very long by reducing the fringe benefits being offered to the customers and reducing the resting time for their planes. Lost leadership is all about how a company refines its whole value chain and does something at a lower cost in a distinctive manner which can not be acquired by a competitor (Scilly 2015). However, it is also true that internet has improved operational effectiveness for almost all firms and that it has increased the chances of being copied rapidly hence increasing rivalry and competition. So it has become difficult for firms to stay competitive for very long and the dynamics for competition are changing quite rapidly. Therefore it has become crucial more than ever to have a distinctive strategic positioning and a unique value proposition which can be achieved with a combination of cost leadership and differentiation (Thomas 2015). The companies have proved to be cost efficient throughout human history and my take is that whatever the circumstances, there will always be winners while at the same time there will be losers too. It is all about how vigilant we are in
